Birding Checklists and CBC Data

I have compiled multiple checklists for local birding locations and areas. I also compile for two Christmas Bird Counts have have the historical data for both of them. Feel free to download the files and use them.

Algoma District Checklist - the Algoma District is a geographic area located in Northern Ontario. It includes portions of both Lake Superior and Lake Huron, plus the St. Marys River that connects the two. 336 species are included on the official list. Recent additions to the list include Glaucous-winged Gull, Black-headed Grosbeak, Tropical Kingbird, Spotted Towhee, Vermilion Flycatcher, Fish Crow, Piping Plover, Mississippi Kite, White-winged Dove, and Bullock's Oriole

Sault Ste. Marie Birding Area Checklist - the Sault Ste. Marie Birding Area is a 50-mile radius circle, centred at the middle of the International Bridge. 366 species have been recorded, including rarities such as Hepatic Tanager, Townsend's Warbler, Green-tailed Towhee, Sagebrush Sparrow, Lewis's Woodpecker, Short-tailed Hawk, Anhinga, Least Tern, and Garganey.

St. Joseph Island Migratory Bird Sanctuary Checklist - the St. Joseph Island Migratory Bird Sanctuary is located on the southwestern end of St. Joseph Island. It shares the same boundaries as the Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site. It is one of the premier birding locations within the Algoma District, but is very under-birded. 203 species have been recorded here though.

Algoma District Winter Checklist - during the winter birding season from the beginning of December through the end of February, a total of 167 species have been recorded within the Algoma District. Starting in the winter of 2017/2018, I've kept track of what species were recorded each winter.

Sault Ste. Marie Christmas Bird Count Historical Data - the SSM CBC has been running since 1955. It is currently sponsored by the Sault Naturalists. I have been the compiler of the count since 2017. The next count is tentatively scheduled for December 18, 2021.

Desbarats Christmas Bird Count Historical Data - the Desbarats CBC was founded in 2016 and I have been the compiler for all three years. It is currently sponsored by The Kensington Conservancy. The next count is will be late December 2021.

If you find any errors in any of the checklists, please let me know!
